Gudrun Wicander
PhD candidate, Karlstad University, Sweden
Ms. Wicander is affiliated to the Department of Information Systems, Faculty of Economic Sciences, Communication and IT at Karlstad University, Sweden. She holds a PhD Candidate position at the Swedish Research School of Management and IT (MIT) since 2002. She has a Bachelor of Science in Business and Economics with a major in Business Administration, and a Bachelor of Science with a major in Information Systems from Karlstad University. She has a Postgraduate Degree, a Licentiate Degree of Economics with a major in Information Systems from Karlstad University. The Licentiate thesis “Information and Communication Technology Applied for Developing Countries in a Rural Context: Towards a Framework for Analysing Factors Influencing Sustainable Use” was published 2007 at Karlstad University Studies.
Her recent research concerns administration of the education sector and the use of mobile phones for management and data collection. She performs a case study in Tanzania about the existing information flow as regards statistical data within the education sector. The study includes identifying bottle necks including both infrastructural and motivational obstacles.
She is a member of the Faculty Board at the Faculty of Economic Sciences, Communication and IT at Karlstad University. She is Ass.Director of HumanIT, a multidiscplinary research centre at Karlstad University, exploring the impact of information technology on society. HumanIT is an abbreviation of "Human Values of Information Technology".
She is the initiator and coordinator for IPID, the International Network for Post Graduate students in the area of Information and Communication Technologies for Development (ICT4D) sponsored by SPIDER/Sida. The network has been created to support and facilitate networking and knowledge sharing. Today, 287 postgraduate students from 219 universities in 78 countries are participating in this network.
